National Camping and Caravanning Week

100 YEARS OF THE CARAVAN

27th MAY 2Nd June

We need your help!

National Camping and Caravanning Week (NCCW) continues to celebrate the nation’s love for camping, caravanning and the great outdoors. For 2019, NCCW runs from Monday 27 May to Sunday 2 June.

Not only does NCCW raise the profile of the Club – it also allows us to highlight the best campsites to stay at and promote all of the benefits of being in the great outdoors.

The theme for 2019 is ‘100 Years of the Caravan’, and The Club is celebrating the centenary of the Eccles, the first commercially-manufactured caravan designed to be towed by a car and not a horse. We're inviting everyone who appreciates the benefits of the great outdoors and loves ‘van life to celebrate with us, and have a series of competitions for campers to enter. Visit www.nccw.co.uk for more information.

Background

The Club has been running National Camping and Caravanning Week (NCCW) since 2001, when it was launched as part of the Club’s centenary celebrations. It has since become part of our industry and the media's annual events calendar.

It is covered widely in regional and national news, and the BBC have it noted as an annual event and often approach the Club to take part in radio interviews during the week. Its purpose has always been to encourage people to go out camping, caravanning and motorhoming (generically referred to as camping), whether it is in their back garden or on a campsite.

Now in its 19th year, NCCW is the Club’s biggest outreach PR campaign to generate interest in all things camping.

Club Units: Get involved

To help you spread the word about NCCW, we’ve come up with a few ideas. We hope they help!

To celebrate the week, we’re keen for you to show all of your campers at meets and rallies how great the humble caravan is and host your own ‘Year of the Caravan’ themed parties.

- Caravan quiz: throw a quiz for campers to test their caravan knowledge. You can download a list of caravan facts from the Intranet.

- Design and make your own caravan-themed decorations

- Promote caravan-themed games to play

- Throw a caravan-themed party

Once you have chosen an event/activity, please upload this to the ‘What’s On’ section of the Club website. Ensuring the name of your event is ‘National Camping and Caravanning Week: Club Site name: Date. Attached are job aids to assist you, but if require support please email: digital.team@thefriendlyclub.co.uk

The deadline to upload your event/activity is 1st May 2019.

Social media

We are also encouraging all campers to share their most memorable caravan experiences and caravan photos on social media, using: #lovemycaravan. Please mention this to your campers, and encourage them to share the highlights of their caravan holidays. A judging panel made up of HQ staff will vote for their favourite photo and the winner will receive an Outwell awning package worth over £1,100.
